American media and entertainment conglomerate, owner of Universal Pictures. Comcast operates the Universal theme-park resorts.
Universal opened its first Orlando theme park, Universal Studios Florida, in 1990. It expanded with Universal Islands of Adventure in 1999 and Volcano Bay, a water park, in 2017. In 2025 it opened Epic Universe, a $7bn park that took more than five years to build. Epic Universe comprises five themed "worlds" and sits a 20-minute drive from Walt Disney World.
Comcast's theme-parks business brought in less than $9bn in revenue in 2024. It is expanding beyond Orlando, with a horror attraction in Las Vegas, a children's resort in Texas and a large new theme park in Britain expected to open in 2031.
