American media and entertainment conglomerate, owner of Universal Pictures. Comcast operates the Universal theme-park resorts.
Universal opened its first Orlando theme park, Universal Studios Florida, in 1990. It expanded with Universal Islands of Adventure in 1999 and Volcano Bay, a water park, in 2017. In May 2025 it opened Epic Universe, a $7bn park that took more than five years to build. Epic Universe comprises five themed "worlds" and sits a 20-minute drive from Walt Disney World.
Comcast's theme-parks business brought in less than $9bn in revenue in 2024. It is expanding beyond Orlando: a horror attraction in Las Vegas is due to open in August 2025, a children's resort in Texas a year later, and a large new theme park in Britain is expected to open in 2031.
