India's biggest airline by every possible measure, holding a 66% share of the domestic market (in America, by contrast, Delta, United, Southwest and American Airlines hold a 68% share combined). IndiGo is the only carrier on 60% of India's roughly 1,000 domestic routes. Its dominance is built on highly optimised operations, including super-tight schedules.
IndiGo's dominance carries systemic risk. In December 2025 the airline cancelled more than half of its roughly 2,300 daily flights after failing to prepare for new pilot-rest regulations. Because IndiGo is the only carrier on 60% of domestic routes, the disruption effectively grounded Indian aviation as a whole.
Bedfellows make strange politicians.
