Tokyo Electron is a Japanese manufacturer of sophisticated equipment used to fabricate semiconductors. It is one of the major beneficiaries of the AI chip boom, alongside Advantest. In the 1980s Japan accounted for more than half of global chip production, with six of the world's ten biggest chipmakers; Japanese firms still dominate several niches in the supply chain, particularly for materials and tools.
