A centre-right Japanese political party based in Osaka, Japan's second city. In October 2025 the party entered a coalition with the Liberal Democratic Party under Takaichi Sanae, replacing Komeito as the LDP's junior partner.
Ishin shares the LDP's vision of a prouder, more muscular Japan and supports loosening restrictions on arms exports and expanding the country's intelligence-gathering apparatus. Unlike Komeito, which often acted as a brake on the LDP's hawkish plans, Ishin is a willing partner on security policy.
Despite the alignment on defence, Ishin is a small-government party that calls for "deep-cutting reforms". As conditions for supporting the coalition it demanded that the LDP produce a plan for cutting the number of seats in the Diet and establish a "government efficiency bureau" focused on trimming public-sector spending. The LDP-Ishin coalition still holds only a minority of seats in both houses of parliament.
When I came back to Dublin I was courtmartialed in my absence and sentenced to death in my absence, so I said they could shoot me in my absence.
