The World Food Programme (WFP) is a United Nations agency responsible for food assistance. More than 300m people worldwide struggle to feed themselves, according to the WFP.
The WFP maintains supply lines through the Gulf region. The closure of the Strait of Hormuz in early 2026 trapped enough of its food supplies to feed 4m people for a month, forcing the agency to reroute deliveries through circuitous alternative paths, adding weeks to journeys to countries such as Afghanistan.
Rich countries have been slashing aid budgets. Net official development assistance dropped by 9-17% year on year in 2025, after a 9% decline the previous year, according to the OECD.
Space is big. You just won't believe how vastly, hugely, mind-bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it's a long way down the road to the drug store, but that's just peanuts to space.
