Chief executive of Walmart. He began his career at the company as a teenager in the 1980s, loading trucks in an Arkansas warehouse. He was appointed chief executive just over a decade ago, at a time when Walmart's same-store sales were in decline and profits were cratering under pressure from Amazon. He has reinvigorated the company by reinvesting profits into new technologies and e-commerce while using its bricks-and-mortar infrastructure to compete with Amazon.
McMillon handed over the chief-executive role in January 2026 to the boss of Walmart's American business, after nearly 12 years in charge.
