Eduardo Bolsonaro is a Brazilian congressman and the most politically gifted of Jair Bolsonaro's four sons. He is close to Steve Bannon, the American right-wing strategist.
In March 2025 Eduardo took leave from Congress and moved to Texas to court Republican politicians and lobby for sanctions against Alexandre de Moraes, the Supreme Court justice leading the prosecution of his father. He gained access to senior Trump administration figures, including Scott Bessent, America's treasury secretary, warning that Brazilian banks were not complying with sanctions on Mr Moraes.
Eduardo has insisted he will run for president, a move that split the right and triggered Tarcísio de Freitas's withdrawal from the 2026 race. Leaked text messages Eduardo sent his father bad-mouthing Mr Freitas—"He has stood by with his arms crossed, watching you get screwed while he warms up for 2026"—deepened the rift.
The attorney-general has charged Eduardo with seeking to improperly influence his father's trial. The supreme court has authorised the police to investigate Eduardo and his father for alleged crimes committed during the covid-19 pandemic. Hugo Motta, speaker of the lower house, declined to protect him.
His brother Flávio is a senator. In November 2025 Eduardo and Flávio visited El Salvador, where Nayib Bukele has thrown more than 1.5% of the population into jail.
The best way to avoid responsibility is to say, "I've got responsibilities."
