Former justice minister of China, who also served as the country's second highest-ranking police official. Mr Fu was given a suspended death sentence in 2022 for corruption.
His offences allegedly included conducting years-long relationships with "political scammers"—con artists who falsely claimed to have connections that would advance his career. One was a retired police officer; another masqueraded as a senior adviser to Chinese leaders. Both fraudsters used the reputations they had gained from being seen as chums of Mr Fu to facilitate their own business deals.
