Italian car executive turned luxury-goods boss. In the 2000s he spruced up Fiat and Alfa Romeo. He was president of SEAT, a Spanish marque owned by Volkswagen, from 2015 to 2020, turning it into one of VW's raciest units. He then led Renault for five years, refreshing its model range with new electric vehicles, slashing debt and improving margins and return on capital; the firm's share price doubled on his watch.
In June 2025 he resigned from Renault; Kering confirmed he would become its chief executive in September. The appointment was intended to recoup some of the €75bn in shareholder value Kering has lost since 2021. Mr de Meo has a reputation as a serial turnaround star.
