Michael Milken was the driving force behind Drexel Burnham Lambert, the investment bank that collapsed in 1990. His great innovation was introducing risky borrowers to bond markets. Mr Milken's junk bonds fuelled private equity's leveraged-buy-out boom during the 1980s, transforming how American companies were financed.
