Naim Qassem is the leader of Hizbullah, the Iran-backed militia in Lebanon, having succeeded Hassan Nasrallah after Nasrallah was killed by Israel in 2024. His speeches are non-events compared with those of his predecessor, whose addresses once stopped even Christians in northern Lebanon in their tracks. When Qassem holds forth, Beirut's barber shops do not bother to turn on their televisions and the radios of the capital's buses keep playing pop music. Under his leadership the group's relationship with Iran has grown stronger.
