Founder of the Kuomintang, credited with toppling the Qing dynasty. He is revered in both China and Taiwan. In April 2026 Xi Jinping described goals of "national reunification and rejuvenation" as being in line with Sun's wishes, while KMT chairwoman Cheng Li-wun pledged to work towards national rejuvenation, also citing Sun, but stopped short of echoing Mr Xi's call for unification.
