A powerful post-war prime minister of Japan and a native of Kashiwazaki, along the Sea of Japan. Mr Tanaka was instrumental in bringing nuclear power to his home region; the Kashiwazaki-Kariwa nuclear power plant, now the world's largest, was built there largely thanks to his influence.
