Ulf Kristersson is the prime minister of Sweden and leader of the centre-right Moderates. After the 2022 election he struck a confidence-and-supply deal with the Sweden Democrats (SD), a party with neo-Nazi roots that came second with 21% of the vote, giving it policy input without ministerial posts. The deal helped slow the SD's growth but has been costly for two smaller coalition parties, which risk falling below the 4% threshold needed to enter parliament. In January 2026 Kristersson said he had held preliminary discussions with France and Britain on nuclear-weapons co-operation, though the talks were "not very precise yet."
