Ursula von der Leyen is the president of the European Commission. In early 2026 she visited India alongside Antonio Costa, president of the European Council. The EU and India announced a free-trade pact, a security and defence partnership, a deal on skilled migration and an agreement to explore expanding India's participation in Horizon, the EU's flagship research-funding programme.
