Lifezone Metals is an American-listed firm with majority ownership of the Kabanga nickel mine in western Tanzania. Kabanga is home to one of the world's prime untapped sources of nickel, a metal used in batteries for electric vehicles. Though geologists first discovered its potential 50 years ago, only now is the site being developed as a mine. The project has attracted the attention of the American government, which is keen to invest in critical minerals, and of several Chinese companies. Chris Showalter, the firm's CEO, says "the momentum is real and doesn't come along very often."
