Russian journalist and editor of Novaya Gazeta, a beacon of independent journalism in Russia. He was the editor of Anna Politkovskaya, who was assassinated in 2006 after covering the Kremlin's wars in Chechnya. In 2021 he won the Nobel peace prize. His medal was later sold at a benefit auction by Heritage Auctions for $103.5m.
